I've noticed a lot of bandwidth usage but not many visitors. Whats happening?

It could be anything. Here's a couple of examples:

  • That 2.5 MegaByte .bmp file for example is not really necessary. It can be converted to a 20 KiloByte GIF or JPG image which would greatly reduce your bandwidth as well as your visitors frustration.
  • You should also use a single stylesheet rather than multiple stylesheets. This will reduce the amount of calls to your styles directory.
  • You may have an image on your site that is being hot-linked to another site that has high traffic. If you don't know about it, it is actually theft of bandwidth. There are tools you can use to prevent that happening.

There are plenty of things you can do to decrease your bandwidth usage. Give us a call and we will be happy to help diagnose your situation
